Health diversity requires that physicians, other health care providers, and facility personnel must have an awareness and understanding of the health beliefs and values of diverse individuals originating from a plethora of population groups. With this in mind, there is a need for recognition and respect for these diverse ethnic, religious/cultural health beliefs, and values. In doing so, improved patient satisfaction, quality of care, patient safety, and health outcomes can be experienced within your organization.

This audio conference is designed to bring you the latest information on health disparities and health literacy, which are two of the least recognized. Moreover, these are two of the most widespread challenges being faced by facilities that strive to provide better health outcomes and lower liability for health care providers and institutions. Numerous population groups are at high risk for limited literacy, particularly health literacy. These include: elderly, poor, individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, and those for whom English is not their primary language.

By not recognizing the impact of these conditions on health care systems, the results can be reflected by reduced quality of care and non-compliance. Thus, this creates a potential increase in overall liability for health care providers and institutions.

Agenda to be covered in this 90-minute audio conference includes:

  1. Introduction
  2. Relationship between cultural disparity, communication, and health care
  3. Techniques for providing culturally appropriate care
  4. Implement policies that limit liability in providing care to culturally diverse patient
  5. Educate staff on how to enhance skills for providing care to multi-cultural and non-English speaking patients
  6. Case studies involving medical malpractice claims
  7. Q&A
