Emergency department physicians are frequently confronted with newborn concerns from parents or caretakers. An awareness of common neonatal respiratory issues that may present to the ED is critical to maximize the outcome for each infant. Recognizing the benign and identifying the potentially serious conditions of the neonate is important to the practice of emergency medicine. This module will review some of the most common neonatal respiratory emergencies.
